I read the
children’s book, “Just My Friend and Me.”
This children’s
book was written and illustrated by Mercer Mayer.
It’s a
delightful children’s picture book that tells the tale of a little critter that
invites his friend over for the day. He hoped to
have fun with his friend playing different things together, but it doesn’t work
out well as his friend has an accident with the little critters new bike.
As I read this
book, I realised how one-sided this friendship really was. The little critter
was kind, whereas his friend took advantage of him and misused all of his toys.
In fact I’d say
he was more of a bully than a friend. I’m sure we all know one of these!
If I was the
little critter I wouldn’t be his friend anymore but is it as simple as this for
a child today?
Do they
understand what a good friend is or are they just happy to settle for any child
who will play with them?
I’d recommend
reading this book to all children. It’s a great way to interact with your child
and find out if they have a friend like the little critters.
