Whatever Next


I read the children’s book called, ‘Whatever Next.’

This children’s book was written and illustrated by Jill Murphy.

It’s a delightful children’s picture book that tells the tale of a baby bear that wants to go to the moon.

As baby bear looked up at the night sky he tells his mother that he wants to go to the moon. She tells him that he can’t because its bathtime and that he’d have to find a rocket.

So, whilst baby bear waited for his bath to be ready he looked around the house for a suitable rocket, finding one, he collected some things to take with him on his journey to the moon.

And then just before bathtime he travelled to the moon meeting an owl on the way.

The Gruffalo’s Child


I read the children’s book called, ‘The Gruffalo’s Child.’

This children’s book was written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler.

It’s a delightful children’s picture book that tells the tale of the big bad mouse.

After being warned about a big bad mouse living in the woods, the Gruffalo’s child gets curious.

Then one evening bored out of her mind she goes into the woods.

Inside, she meets many animals.

They each tell her something very scary about the big bad mouse.

Night Monkey Day Monkey


I read the children’s book called, ‘Night Monkey, Day Monkey.’

This children’s book was written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Lucy Richards.

It’s a great children’s picture book about two monkeys.

When night monkey wakes up day monkey, he’s scared not only of the dark but also of all the different creatures that he’d never seen before. Also, all the noises that he can hear are all different from what he’s used to.

Believing he’s now dreaming he goes straight back to sleep.

The next morning day monkey wakes up night monkey but the sun is bright and starts hurting her eyes. She rests in an empty nest and learns of all the different creatures that come out in the daytime.

Believing it’s just a dream she goes back to bed.

Now the friends meet at sunrise to share a banana or two, one calls it breakfast the other calls it tea.

I Wish I Had Duck Feet


I read the children’s book called, ‘I wish I had duck feet.’

This children’s book was written by Dr Seuss writing as Theo LeSieg and illustrated by BTOBEY.

It’s a delightful children’s picture book that tells the tale of a little boy that has a great imagination.

First, the little boy wanted duck feet, then it was horns, changed to a spout, a tail and then to a long, long nose.

His mother wasn’t impressed with the things that he wanted, banning them from the house until he was sorted.

So, what do you think he chose in the end?

Well he couldn’t decide and so wanted them all but now he’s locked up in a cage in the zoo!

How To Catch A Dragon


I read the children’s book called, ‘How to catch a dragon.’

This children’s book was written by Caryl Hart and illustrated by Ed Eaves.

It’s a delightful children’s picture book that tells the tale of a little boy called Albie who needs to draw a dragon for his homework.

But Albie’s having a problem drawing a dragon as he’s never ever seen one before.

When his mum takes Albie to the library, he’s excited to see that it looks like a castle.

Inside he meets a knight where their imagination takes them on an adventure that leads to dragons.

Now Albie can draw a dragon and finish his homework on time. Yippee!

This is a wonderful book that opens young minds to imagination through play and reading books.

A lovely book for young children that encourages reading and going to the library.

So, why not go take a visit to the library, you never know you too might meet a dragon or even a Wizard!

Blue Hat Green Hat


I read the children’s book called, ‘Blue Hat Green Hat.’

This children’s book was written and illustrated by Sandra Boynton.

It’s a great children’s picture book about different colours.

This picture book uses animals in different coloured garments for children to learn four basic colours; blue, red, yellow and green.

It also gives children the opportunity to identify the different garments and different types of animals, as well as the associated words.

I’d recommend this book for young children as a teaching aid, especially as it teaches colours on different clothing and on different animals but also by using word association and repetition.

This is a wonderful children’s picture book. It’s educational as it encourages reading.

Why Was Mog In The Dark?

I read the children’s book called, ‘Mog in the Dark.’

This children’s book was written and beautifully illustrated by Judith Kerr.

It’s a delightful children’s picture book that tells the tale of a cat called Mog.

When Mog the cat sat outside his house in the dark he wondered.

He wondered about all the other things that could be outside with him in the dark and so on hearing an unusual sound he went off to investigate.

But then he began to get scared and his imagination got the better of him.

What if, the birds have big teeth and there are dogs!

Mog gets even more scared, he wants to go home.

But can he find his way back home in the dark?

Why Dinosaurs Don’t Have Bedtimes

I read the children’s book called, ‘Dinosaurs Don’t Have Bedtimes.’

This children’s book was written by Timothy Knapman and illustrated by Nikki Dyson.

It’s a delightful children’s picture book that tells the tale of a little boy named Mo that likes dinosaurs.

Mo likes dinosaurs so much that he pretends to be one everyday which isn’t great at bedtimes.

When his mum wants him to get him ready for bed she finds it difficult to get the little dinosaur to have a bath, clean his teeth, or even wear pajamas.

So, how will she persuade the little dinosaur to do all those things and then go to bed?

Alan’s Big Scary Teeth

I read the children’s book called, ‘Alan’s Big Scary Teeth.’

This children’s book was written and illustrated by Jarvis.

It’s a delightful children’s picture book that tells the tale of a very scary alligator called Alan.

Now Alan liked to scare the jungle animals with his big scary teeth but little did they know they were not his own. They were false!

Every evening before bedtime Alan would take out his false teeth to sleep.

Then one morning he awoke to find his false teeth had disappeared.

What had happened to his sharp snappy teeth?

How could he scare the jungle animals with just his gums?

Would he remain toothless forever?

I read the children’s book called, ‘A Squash And A Squeeze.’

This children’s book was written by Julia Donaldson and beautifully illustrated by Axel Scheffler.

It’s a delightful children’s picture book that tells the tale of a little old lady who grumbles about her small little house.

When a wise old man hears the little old lady moaning about how small her house was, he gives her some tips.

But after listening to the wise old man the little old lady ends up taking in all the farm animals leaving her no space in her small house to move.

What will she do next?

Do You See Red?

I read the children’s book called, ‘Seeing Red.’

This children’s book was written by Robert Munsch, and beautifully illustrated by Michael Martchenko.

It’s a delightful children’s picture book that tells the tale of two friends and their hair.

When Arie’s friend Alex who has black hair wants to know the secret to having red hair like Arie, he’s told to eat ten tomatoes, drink ketchup and hot Mexican pepper sauce.

After school, Alex follows Arie’s instructions, but his hair remained the same colour. The only thing different was his mouth, it was burning like it was on fire. He realized then that his friend had played a joke on him.

The following day at school he told Arie that his hair had turned red but he preferred it black.

Arie was intrigued. He wanted to know how he could change his red hair to black.

Will Alex be a good friend and tell him the truth or will he tell him the secret of how to turn his red hair, black!

I read the children’s book called, ‘My Mouth Is A Volcano.’

This children’s book was written by Julia Cook and is beautifully illustrated by Carrie Hartman.

It’s a delightful children’s picture book that tells the tale of a young boy called Louis and his very loud voice.

When a boy called Louis gets excited, he can’t help but shout out his important words even when people are talking.

At school this gets him into trouble with the teacher.

At home this gets him into trouble with his parents.

So, how can Louis stop shouting out his words when others are speaking?

Have You Ever Met A Very Cranky Bear?

I read the children’s book called, ‘The Very Cranky Bear.’

This children’s book was written and beautifully illustrated by Nick Bland.

It’s a delightful children’s picture book that tells the tale of a bear that just wants peace and quiet.

When four friends, a Zebra, Sheep, Moose and Lion take shelter from the rain inside a cave, they soon find that they’re not alone!

A cranky bear that was already inside the cave chases them away and back into the rain.

What can they do, the four friends can’t play outside on a rainy day, they need shelter too!

So, they made a plan, to cheer the bear up.

If they cheered the bear up, then he’d let them stay.

The problem was, how were they going to do it?

Will the friends succeed in making the bear happy, or will it do the reverse?

Ever Got A Bit Lost?

I read the children’s book called, ‘A Bit Lost.’  

This children’s book was written and illustrated by Chris Haughton.

It’s a delightful children’s picture book that tells the tale of a young baby owl.

When a young sleepy baby owl topples out of the nest it falls to the ground below.

The baby owl is lost and scared, but then a friendly squirrel comes along and helps the baby owl to find it’s mother.

The storylines very much like another children’s book I’ve read, however it’s still a lovely story that young children would like. It has a happy ending.

It’s a great book for young children that encourages caring, family and friendship.

Do You Like Cookies?

I read the children’s book called, ‘Mmm Cookies,’ yesterday.

This children’s book was written by Robert Munsch. Illustrated by Michael Martchenko.

It’s a delightful children’s picture book that tells the tale of a young boy named Christopher that likes to make cookies, not tasty, delicious cookies, but play clay ones.

Unfortunately, he tricks his unsuspecting parents into eating them. Not amused they warn his teacher of his antics.

At school, Christopher’s delighted to be given a cookie by his teacher.

But will it be a real tasty delicious cookie or just a play clay one?

What's Your Favourite Book?

I read the children’s book called, ‘Charlie Cook’s Favourite Book,’ last week.

This children’s book was written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler.

It’s a delightful rhyming children’s picture book. It tells the tale of a boy called Charlie Cook who loves to read his favourite book about a leaky pirate ship.

However, the pirate story leads into many other fantastic stories, with each story ending with a favourite book.

This children’s book has a unique and interesting ending, but I’m not going to spoil it and tell you.

The Somethingosaur

I read the children’s book called, ‘The Somethingosaur,’ last week.

This children’s picture book was written by Tony Mitton and illustrated by Russell Atto.

This delightful rhyming children’s picture book is about a lonely egg that hatches in a swamp.

What comes out of the egg is an unusual small creature that begins to search for his mum.

He travels high and low, and in the waste and the wild, until he finally finds her.

Now, he knows what type of creature he really is, and it wasn’t a Somethingosaur!

It’s a great book with a lovely story that children will like.

The Heart and the Bottle

I read the children’s book called, ‘The Heart and the Bottle,’ yesterday afternoon.

This children’s picture book was written by Oliver Jeffers.

This delightful children’s picture book is about a small girl that’s curious about the world. She also likes finding new things.

A small girl’s curiosity gets the better of her when she finds an empty chair. It makes her sad.

She’s so sad that she puts her heart into a glass bottle and wears it round her neck, but then it changed her.

She wasn’t curious anymore.

That was until she met someone small. Then she decided to get her heart back, but she didn’t know how to remove it from the bottle for she was now grown and could no longer remember.

It’s a beautiful story that encourages us to remain curious to all things even as we get older.

The story has a lovely ending.

Scaredy-Cat Spat

I read the children’s book called, ‘Scaredy-Cat Spat,’ yesterday.

This children’s picture book was written by Rob Scotton.

This delightful children’s picture book is about a cat called Spat.

Splat the cat is scared of everything, so when he finds a spider he gets very scared indeed.

His mum puts the spider in a jar to keep it safe and to show Splat that the spider’s not at all scary.

No longer afraid, Splat decides on taking the spider to school to show at the Halloween party. All of his friends will be in Halloween costumes and the teacher will be giving out a prize for the scariest cat.

But then, Splat breaks his costume.

Oh no, what’s he going to do?

Imagine

I read the children’s book called, ‘Imagine,’ a few days ago.

This children’s picture book was written by Mariju Katic and Dale Kern, with illustrations by Brittani Teitsma.

This delightful children’s picture book is about a young girl with a creative imagination.

She imagines the impossible each time she does something or goes out with a family member.

Children have wonderful creative minds. This book opens and encourages a creative imagination, unless you’re like me and already have one.

A lovely book for both children and adults to read.
